Bio
Dena Howerton has been caring for North Texas women since 1993 as a registered nurse. She became certified as a nurse-midwife in 2000 and went to work within the Parkland Health System in Dallas. Dena has served the Cleburne community since 2019, placing a priority on providing comprehensive women’s health care — from prenatal care and well-woman examinations to perimenopausal and postmenopausal care. Dena’s areas of special interest and focus include both low-risk and high-risk obstetrics, which includes diabetes, hypertension, and infectious diseases. In addition to being a skilled clinician, she has taught and mentored students in the field of maternal/newborn nursing.
Dena earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas. She completed her nurse-midwifery certification at Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in Dallas before earning her master’s degree in nursing at Texas Woman’s University in Denton. Dena is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the Consortium of Texas Certified Nurse-Midwives.
