Donnell Khalid Bowen, DO Cardiothoracic Surgeryin Fort Worth, TX

Dr. Donnell Bowen honorably served in the United States Army for 15 years as a cardiothoracic surgeon and continues to serve in the Army Reserves. During his time on active duty, he deployed to the Middle East as the theater Thoracic Surgeon for the Combined Joint Task Force and in support of Operation Spartan Shield. He served as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center from 2020-2022. Dr. Bowen began his civilian career in 2022 at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, where he acted as Deputy Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery for three years before relocating to North Texas. He also previously served in a number of academic capacities, including for five years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery for F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine-Uniformed Serves University of Health Sciences as well as adjunct faculty for the General Surgery Residency and Cardiology Fellowship for the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC).

Dr. Bowen is fellowship-trained in thoracic surgery. His areas of focus include aortic surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting including multi-arterial grafting, heart valve surgery, surgery for atrial fibrillation (MAZE, convergent procedure), and minimally-invasive transcatheter therapies to treat valve disease and other heart disorders.

Dr. Bowen earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He completed his general surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, and his thoracic surgery fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. Dr. Bowen is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and Southern Thoracic Surgical Association.
