Bio
Dr. Sukesh Burjonroppa has cared for North Texas hearts since 2010. Prior to that time, he spent years in Galveston, Texas, serving as an assistant professor of medicine, director of Peripheral Vascular Interventions and assistant director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab for The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He is fellowship-trained in cardiology and interventional cardiology.
Dr. Burjonroppa specializes in interventions for structural heart and valvular disease, including heart failure, coronary artery disease, HCM, congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease and peripheral vascular disease. He performed the first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for critical aortic stenosis in 2015 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth and has been involved in over 600 TAVR procedures, including complex valve-in-valve and alternative access TAVR in collaboration with surgical colleagues. Dr. Burjonroppa performs mitral valve repair with MitraClip as well as percutaneous transcatheter mitral valve replacement in appropriately vetted patients. Additionally, he performs transradial catheterization and has conducted over 60 courses to train physicians on the procedure and other advanced techniques to treat cardiovascular and peripheral vascular disease.
Dr. Burjonroppa currently serves as an assistant professor in the TCU School of Medicine in Fort Worth and as physician co-lead of the Heart and Valve program at Texas Health Fort Worth. He also is the principal investigator for the randomized double-blind trial EXPAND TAVR for treating patients with symptomatic moderate aortic stenosis early in their clinical course versus medical management. He is the recipient of the Young Investigator award from the American College of Cardiology for his work on Rescue PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) going back to 2011.
Dr. Burjonroppa earned his medical degree in Bangalore, India. In 2000, he set down roots in the United States to pursue his internal medicine residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center, affiliated with the MCP-Hahnemann University School of Medicine, in Philadelphia, Pa. He completed his cardiology fellowship at the UT Health Science Center in Houston before going on to complete his interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of California San Francisco.
Dr. Burjonroppa is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He holds additional certifications in cardiology, interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology, vascular medicine and endovascular medicine. Beyond his work, he enjoys staying fit by playing tennis and traveling with family.
