Bio
Monica Melvin’s nursing career began in 2009. Since that time, she has served in various capacities, including as a staff nurse, childbirth educator, nurse manager, and labor and delivery triage nurse. While working in North Carolina early in her career, Monica founded the Local Childbirth Educators Coalition to foster healthy postpartum and new baby care. She also developed and managed a universal postpartum and newborn home visiting department for a medical center in Winston-Salem. She loves to experience “ah-ha” moments with her patients, knowing they are empowered to either take control of their health or find the strength to birth a baby.
Monica became certified as a nurse midwife in 2021. She holds dual bachelor’s degrees in health and exercise science from Wake Forest University and in nursing from Winston Salem State University. She earned her Doctorate of Nurse Practice with an emphasis in nurse midwifery at Baylor University in Dallas. Monica completed midwifery residencies through Texas Health Nurse Midwife Care in Fort Worth. Her areas of special focus include high-risk maternal-fetal medicine, labor management, women’s primary care and breastfeeding counseling. When not helping women through one of the most joyous and vulnerable times in their life, she enjoys trying new restaurants, hanging with friends and kickboxing.
