Bio
Dr. Brian Tibbs brings more than a decade of clinical and research experience to Texas Health Surgical Care. As a fellowship-trained trauma/critical care surgeon, he has extensive experience in the surgical management of patients with critical wounds, burns, traumatic injuries and other life-threatening conditions. With his added qualification in surgical critical care, Dr. Tibbs is also able to care for post-surgical patients in the ICU. He currently serves as the medical director of Trauma Services for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Previously, he was the medical director of Burn and Trauma Research at Mercy Medical Research Institute in Springfield, Mo.
Dr. Tibbs earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He remained in Kansas City to complete his residency training in general surgery before heading to Atlanta, Ga. While in Georgia, Dr. Tibbs pursued his fellowship-training in trauma and surgical critical care at Emory University School of Medicine. He uses advanced and minimally invasive surgical techniques to perform complex hernia and abdominal wall repairs; intestinal bowel surgeries, laparoscopic appendectomies, cholecystectomies and gallbladder removal; tissue biopsies; and other acute care and emergent surgeries.
In addition to his in-depth clinical work in trauma and surgical critical care, Dr. Tibbs is well-published on topics ranging from burn trauma and gunshot wounds to hemorrhagic shock and rare fungal infections in tornado victims. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and Western Trauma Association.
