Bio
Dr. Christopher Cooper is board-certified in general surgery and in surgical critical care. After graduating from Duke University in Durham, N.C., with an undergraduate degree in biological anthropology and anatomy, Dr. Cooper earned his medical degree from East Carolina University-The Brody School of Medicine in Greenville. He then went on to complete his general surgery internship and residency training at the University of Missouri in Columbia before completing his trauma and surgical critical care fellowship at the University of California-Irvine.
Dr. Cooper performs most types of general surgical procedures, including open and minimally invasive procedures for gallbladder removal, removal of the appendix, acute emergencies related to solid organ and hollow viscous intra-abdominal injuries, hernia repair and other health concerns. His areas of special focus and primary interest include trauma, burn, critical care and acute care surgery.
He is published in such peer-reviewed journals as the Journal of Trauma, Military Medicine, and Prehospital and Disaster Medicine. He has spoken throughout the country on topics ranging from trauma innovation and strategies for neglected trauma disease to training for endotracheal intubation and recognition and management of nerve agent causalities.
Dr. Cooper is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also involved in the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. When not caring for his patients, Dr. Cooper enjoys golfing, playing tennis and advancing his photography skills.
