Bio
Michelle McKenna honorably served in the United States Navy for 28 years as a hospital corpsman and then a navy nurse corps officer. Her global nursing career began in 2005 when she was deployed to the Persian Gulf and later Kuwait as a staff labor and delivery nurse in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her other experiences include five years as a department head of the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department and staff certified nurse-midwife at in the Navy Medical Readiness & Training Command in Yokosuka, Japan, and Jacksonville, Fla.
While in Japan, Michelle served as program manager for Centering in Pregnancy, a program designed to improve prenatal care and birth outcomes for area pregnant women. She also served as a certified inpatient obstetrical nurse for 13 years prior to becoming a certified nurse-midwife in 2018.
Michelle received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, Calif. She earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in nurse midwifery while attending the University of Washington School of Nursing in Seattle. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau international society of nursing in 2017. Michelle is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.
